Foraged Rosehips & Easy Rosehip Jelly

PictureRosehips on a wild Briar Rose bramble.
It is that time of year again -- when the temperatures begin to drop & the air gets a bit blustery; time for pumpkins & apple picking. Time to start thinking about ROSES. Not the lush blooms of Summer, no!
Now is the time to think about ROSEHIPS.
Now, in fact, is the perfect time to harvest them, as they typically best after first frost.

Rosehips, for those not familiar with them, are the fruit of the rose plant. Packed with Vitamin C & nutrients, rosehips are valuable commodities. Press them for oil to nourish & brighten the skin. Dry them for tea used traditionally to support the immune system, ease arthritis pain,  & provide antioxidants. Or, use them is to make jams, jellies, syrups, & cordials, & reap all their benefits at once! I have very fond memories from my childhood in Montana of going up into the mountains to gather rose hips with my mother, aunts, & grandfather. I also have very fond memories of the jellies & jams made afterward with the haul!

Forage rosehips from only those plants that you are certain were not treated with pesticides.

My husband & I were blessed with 2 beautiful girls. When I was diagnosed with MS, I couldn't keep up the pace working retail. We decided on a simpler life, built a cabin in the woods, & moved to mid-coast Maine
